Honor 20 Smartphone Review

Honor 20 Smartphone Review

Honor 20 brings together style and high-performance, wrapped in an iconic glass design with a quad-camera that captures the wonder of life’s best moments.

The new smartphone released by Honor in May 2019 is the embodiment of this.

Design

The new smartphone is available in two colors – Midnight Black and Sapphire Blue.

It has a mirror glass back that creates subtle patterns and highlights that shines and moves alongside unique lights and a metal frame with uniform coloring.

The camera positioned on the back in the top left corner, with three lenses and a flash, stands out slightly. What is new about this camera is that Honor included a smaller macro lens.

Another extra feature is the fingerprint reader. Honor brings an unfamiliar concept in designing and got the position on the side, making it easy to reach. The fingerprint reader has a double role, so it serves as a power button too.

The volume rocker and nanoSIM slot sit tight in the case.

Honor 20 has a notification LED which has the position under the cover of the earpiece and blinks through the fine mesh.

Display

The display of this phone has a 6.26“  IPS panel with a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels; and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

Honor 20s brightness distribution is excellent, 95%.

It has a FullView display that means the phone is notch-less and narrow-bezel designed. This generates an extremely high screen-to-body ratio.

The phone does not use PWM to regulate its brightness. Users with sensitive eyes need not worry about getting headaches or eyestrain from longer usage of this device.

Hardware and software

Honor 20 has a HiSilicon Kirin 980 and 6 GB of RAM, which ensures a smooth system.

This accompanied by an ARM Mali G76 MP10 and an internal storage with a capacity of 128 GB.

The hardware could support more-demanding applications and with system performance, there are no expectations for any issues.

In addition, Honor brings to us a performance mode that you can activate to improve the behavior of the smartphone.

Users will find out that the smartphone runs the Android 9.0 Pie.

The user interface is Honor’s own Magic UI 2.1; it is strongly similar to Huawei’s EMUI surface.

The phone uses the manufacturer’s own telephone and gallery apps.

The settings menu structure is a little different, but all the functions are easy to use.

Battery

The smartphone has a built-in battery of 3750 mah, and a 22.5W Honor SuperCharge. This means that the battery will be fully charged in one hour.

The manufacturer ensures that the battery will last up to 132 hours of music playback, 18 of video playback, and 26 hours of 3G calls.

Camera

Honor 20 has a rear quad-camera system. This includes a 48MP lens with an f/1.8 aperture for everyday moments. In addition, the wide-angle 16MP lens with an f/2.2 aperture is for epic landscape shots. The little 2MP lens is for macro shots and close-up beauty, and the other 2MP lens is for depth assistance, perfect for gorgeous portraits.

The camera capabilities are enhanced by the Kirin 980 AI chipset’s Dual-NPU and Dual-ISP. In this way you can capture every detail with striking clarity, even if you take the photo from a distant or high vantage point.

The front camera has a 32-MP lens with an aperture of f/2.0 which helps you to make very detailed portraits.

The high-resolution selfie camera intelligently combines four pixels into one larger pixel for brighter, clearer selfies.

AI for Camera

The new AI beautify and portrait modes offer a shallow depth of field and bokeh effect for stunningly gorgeous and creative results.

The 48MP main camera captures superior image quality, the all-new 117° super wide-angle lens allows you to fit more into the frame making shooting landscape scenes or cramped interiors easy.

The main camera is also good at taking amazing panorama photos. Details nicely recorded and the edges of objects become a little blurry just at top zoom levels. The black areas are well illuminated, so the objects placed in the shade are still visible. The colors appear a little too bright.

With the Macro lens, you can take extreme close-up shots from 4 centimeters away, even the colors can look a little washed out.

The smartphone camera has many modes such as portrait, night mode, or panorama mode.

The night mode has a plus power with the AIS algorithm, this mode on the main camera allows for crisp and clear photos in low-light even with unwanted hand movements.

The camera also offers a pro mode, so the users can adjust manually the shutter speed, ISO, focus, etc..

The quality of the videos is like those of the photographs. You can choose between a beautification function or color filters. The image stabilizer compensates for minor shakes.
