Blackview A80 Pro Smartphone Review

Blackview A80 Pro Smartphone Review

If you have never heard of Blackview, it is a Chinese company that mainly specializes in rugged phones which withstands the adversities of nature.

My review piece, the Blackview A80 Pro Smartphone, is not of that category.

With an experience of over 7 years, Blackview has made excellent dust and waterproof devices that are durable. They rarely ventured into more mainstream smartphones.

Blackview A80 Pro is an affordable, almost super budget smartphone with a price range of around $150. It has a four-camera system, a good enough hardware configuration, and a significant battery life, but let’s see in detail what the Blackview A80 Pro is capable of.

Design

Blackview A80 Pro, at first sight, looks solid and well made. The case is made out of plastic but not bad by touching, The matt finish of the back gives you a premium feel.

Blackview A80 Pro is available in four variations of matt colors, Coral Red, Gradient Blue, Jade Green, and Midnight Black.

Speaking of the back part, you get a general layout, four cameras, and a dual flash framed in an elongated frame like the Oukitel C17 Pro, except that Blackview A80 Pro has a plus camera.

Next to the frame of the cameras, you get the fingerprint reader. It works most of the time with a little lag, but in this price range, there is no wonder you did not get that snappy speed.

On the front, you get an almost full screen, only the small water drop notch disturbs the full view experience. In that notch, it is included the selfie camera.

At the side parts, there is nothing fancy, the volume rocker and power button, and on the other part, it is located the dual SIM tray. You can exchange the secondary SIM with a micro SD card up to 256GB.

The upper part contains a 3.5-millimeter headphone jack, the bottom encompasses an USB C port and a downward-facing mono speaker. The sound quality of that speaker is poor. Not so loud and not really detailed.

At the front, you are facing a bright enough screen with pleasant colors and a bluish tint, but more on the display later.

The phone is almost bezel-less, only on the bottom you meet a narrow black stripe.

Display

Blackview A80 Pro has a 6.49-inch HD+ IPS panel with a 1560×720 resolution. The screen to body ratio is generous, 90.3%, which is more than enough in this category.

This display has good viewing angles, colors are bright and natural. The only down point of the display that is not bright enough in direct sunlight and the white color is a little blueish. You can make some tweaks in the color setup. You can choose between standard, vivid, and user mode to enhance a bit of the colors.

Camera

This smartphone as I mentioned before has a Quadro camera system on the rear and a selfie camera on the front.

The rear camera system contains a 13MP Sony camera assisted by three lenses. The other three cameras do nothing in particular. They only help the main camera, for better and clearer photos.

The additional cameras have really low resolutions, 2MP, 0.3MP, and also 0.3MP. They mostly assist in scene detection and bokeh blur effects.

Overall, you got ok photos, but nothing special. Surprisingly sharp photos in good lighting conditions, but pretty noisy in the lack of light.

The 8 MP also Sony sensor makes good selfies. The Ai beauty mode is present here, too. Contrast is powerful enough, but on the details side, it is a bit poor.

Overall speaking, this camera setup is not the most significant selling point of this device. If you want something solid on the camera side, I do not advise this phone for choosing.

Performance and Battery

Speaking of power, Blackview A80 Pro has a great chipset. It owns an octa-core Helio P25 processor from Mediatek Along with Mali-T880 MP2 GPU it has a fair enough performance for everyday usage. More demanding games do not work so strongly on this device.

Blackview A80 Pro has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB internal storage space. With a micro SD card, it can go up to a maximum of 256 GB.

The battery is powerful enough to run through your day. It lasts roughly 15 hours in general use. Blackview A80 Pro comes with a fast charger, thus the charging time is shorter.

Verdict

Blackview A80 Pro is a nice affordable smartphone. The advantage is mainly that it is very cheap, but what do we get for this amount of money?

A strong construction, with great battery life, fluid operation in everyday usage, and an overall decent entry-level smartphone.

Don’t be fooled by the cameras. They are only for the details. The photos although came out pleasantly good, in healthy lighting conditions.

If you are not a photo fan and are forgiving with the details, then you can opt for this smartphone.

In this price range, few brands offer more than the Blackview A80 Pro.

For a budget phone, these performance values are not bad at all, moreover, they are better than the competitors.

If I have piqued your interest, you can get this phone on the Blackview store or AliExpress.
