Umidigi S5 Pro

Umidigi S5 Pro

Last month, in May Umidigi, launched a promising new smartphone, the Umidigi S5 Pro.

Umidigi S5 Pro is a budget phone with premium features. This is one of the best constructions from Umidigi so far.

Umidigi S5 Pro has some nice hardware configuration under the hood. A great chipset, a good amount of memory, large storage space, lasting battery, a quad-camera system, a pop-up selfie camera, a great AMOLED display, and many more.

At a price range under $300, it’s no wonder this phone has made me curious. Let’s find out in more detail what lies within this great smartphone.

Design

Umidigi S5 Pro has a 3D curved glass back, although it looks plasticky. Probably you don’t feel that in your hand. It looks nice, premium-like, it has a sleek design.

Glancing at the screen you immediately notice a huge display, with no punch hole or notch in it. The motorized selfie camera is ingeniously hidden into the phone’s body, as we saw on the OnePlus 7T or Poco F2.

On the right side, you will encounter the usual buttons, the power, and the volume rocker. At the other side, you get a special SIM tray for dual SIM cards and a micro SD card.

On the top, you have the pop-up camera, and on the bottom, you see an USB C port and the down facing speaker. Unfortunately, there is no space for a 3.5 mm headphone jack. If you want to use a classic headphone, you got an adapter in the box.

Overall, it is a nice-looking smartphone with refined curves. Colorwise it is available in two fancy named colors, Ocean Blue and Cosmic Black.

Display

As I mentioned before, the Umidigi S5 Pro got a large display. With no punch holes and cutouts, you receive a no distraction screen.

The panel itself is a 6.39-inch FHD+ AMOLED with a 2340×1080 pixel resolution, Umidigi named it as Ultra FullView Display. Thanks to the pop-up selfie camera, you literally have only small bezels. Thus the screen to body ratio is 93.1%, which is fantastic.

There are many pros and cons to the pop-up cameras, some manufacturers abandoned them. As a moving part, they are afraid of their mechanism breaking down.

Umidigi claims that in a test environment they had 300 000 pop-ups. Calculating this number, you conclude that you can use the selfie camera around 400 times a day. Of course, if you want to use this phone for let’s say 2 years.

This number is huge, so the fear that it might break down doesn’t seem to be real. Of course, it depends on preferences, but for a full view screen experience, it can be a viable choice.

Camera

Speaking of camera, Umidigi S5 Pro has a quad-camera setup on the rear, and as I mentioned before a pop-up camera on the top, for the selfies.

The main camera on the back is a 48 MP lens with a 1/2-inch image sensor, 1.6μm pixel, and F/1.79 aperture value. With the big image sensor and the AI of the camera, you can get synthesized UHD images, thanks to the software.

The next one is a 16 MP lens with a 120-degree ultra-wide-angle. Edge distortion correction is possible by the AI.

A 5 MP depth sensor is added for great portrait separation and the last lens is also a 5 MP sensor, qualified for macro shots. With a 2 cm macro distance, you will take stunningly detailed close-ups.

On the list of camera features, you can meet the regular modes like beauty mode, scene detection, portrait, panorama, HDR, slow-motion videos, face recognition, and others

Speaking of slow-motion videos, the rear camera setup can record in 4K, 1080p, 720p, 480p at 30 frames per second.

The selfie camera as I presented before has a pop-out mechanism. It has a 16 MP sensor with an F/2.0 aperture value. Enhanced with the software, it is your best companion on selfie shots. AI beauty, selfie countdown, and face recognition are the basics when doing selfies.

The front-facing camera records videos only in 1080p, 720p, and 480p at 30 frames per second.

Performance

As I mentioned before, Umidigi S5 Pro has exceptional performance values, surprisingly good at this price range. At various benchmarks, Umidigi S5 Pro got one of the highest points in the budget phone category.

The excellent hardware setup comprises a Helio G90T chipset by MediaTek with 8 cores. Along with a Mali G76 MC4 GPU, it is one of the fastest phones in this segment.

Not surprisingly, Umidigi S5 Pro is pretty good for gaming. The liquid cool technology improves the gaming experience, the phone does not overheat so easily.

Along with 6 GB of RAM, Umidigi S5 Pro is snappy enough in everyday usage, no lags, and any unwanted hiccups. Runs fluidly on stock Android 10.

With 256 GB of internal storage, you have plenty of space for your latest games.

Umidigi S5 Pro also has a powerful 4680mAh battery. With the 18W fast charger, you don’t have to worry about running out of juice.

Nowadays fashionable features like NFC payment and in-screen fingerprint unlock are also accessible in the Umidigi S5 Pro construction.

Conclusion

To sum up this brief presentation or introduction I would like to say that this phone is pretty good value, especially in the price range in which we can find it.

You rarely find such a performant smartphone under $300. Umidigi is getting more and more forward in this business and launching better and better phones in the market.

So I dare to recommend this powerful, innovative, sleek phone to anyone who is interested in the brand.

You can get it at a special price on Banggod, AliExpress, or Tomtop.
